Abuse/Addiction

The abuse started as a child; I was in and out of the hospital for malnutrition and or severe dehydration; we lived in tents spring- fall and lived at friends' houses until CAS was called on my father; he was an alcoholic/ drug abuser/dealer. It was nothing for my dad to have "his friends overdoing lines and guns always on the table. The sexual abuse started when I was about 4; if I wanted something to eat, I had to do something to receive food (and it was only ever chicken or chicken hotdogs). I wasn't skilled enough to ask for something else. My father would drug my mom and make her sleep on the couch so he could f whoever he wanted to, but while he was sleeping with these women, my brother and I were "forced to watch. "If we didn't, we got a beating; the beating lasted too how long we didn't watch. We had to watch so that the "next time, my brother or I was more experienced. "When I was about 8, my brother was told that he had to do what my father was doing to me. We had to learn. I ran away from home, and it took a year and a half for my dad to find me; of course, my father did what he does best and threatened the family… I was forced to go home, and then I was forced to move into another "new small town. "I knew no one, and I had no "safe place to go, "so I skipped school and did whatever I could do to miss the bus . This town was all native people, so being white, I wasn't accepted didn't matter what I was doing. Everyone hated me, so not only was I being abused, but I had no friends. When I tried getting some friends, I'd talk minimally about "my life at home. "Those kids spoke to the teachers, and of course, I got in trouble at school. The school phoned my dad, and I begged them not to that I'd regret it later. When I got home, they assured me everything would be okay. My dad picked me up from the bus stop which never happened and I get beating with a black eye broken nose forced for more sex and if I spoke up against my dad my next beating was going to be worse … we finally got home, and I had to lie to my mom and say I got in a fight at school… and I had to clean myself up, mom wasn't allowed near me … Dad kept me home for a week because of my black eye/ broken nose to heal… At that house, we were on the outskirts, so we barely had Dad's friends over, so I was forced to do it no matter what I said. We finally moved back to my hometown. Still, again, I was warned I was to include him in everything. I was at a friend's house party, and I thought I didn't have to tell him he should be busy with his friends… omg, did I get beat? I felt I was in a safe place … this time, I wasn't. I was so embarrassed that I was beaten in front of everyone, so I got mad for the first time in 14 years. I finally got the courage to fight back against my father. Yes, it felt terrific. I tripped him, and he kept going to the bottom of the hill and broke his foot.   I was so proud/ excited; my father healed up, and I thought he understood where I was coming from … when I turned 15, I again didn't include my father, and I got in trouble; my father picked up my brother and myself by our throat and screamed to us that we weren't worth the air we breathe etc. so days later I tried committing suicide. Obviously I didn't succeed, my father was told by the police that he had to leave, or I was, my mom was told that it's him or me, mom wasn't to see me again …

That's just the beginning of life for me, when I turned 16 I realized that I hated life and didn't want to anymore. So I tried committing suicide and jumped off the dock with a rock tied to my ankle; at that time, a friend came and saved me. He became my boyfriend and husband. We had a child together years later and got married soon after our 2nd one came along then my husband passed away (heart issues) and only 27, so with his family I was blamed for my hubby passing away I uprooted and left his family behind; but in my mind the only thing that was going to help me was alcohol so I became that raging alcoholic, but I didn't want to become my father, I was sleeping with multiple men drunk daily, it got to the point where I had to make a decision take my kids to their sports or drink, drinking normally overrode that .. then my mother in law comes out of the woodwork and threatens me for full custody, she lost, but I was told to clean up or I'm going to lose my kids, I just couldn't get a handle on why I had to quit drinking, it was making me better (in my mind) and numbing my thoughts and emotions. So she tried again three years later (myself still drinking), but this time, she wanted joint custody week for a week. She was denied because she didn't drive, so she couldn't get the kids to school or sports, or better yet, to the hospital if it was needed, so again, it was thrown out. Four years later, she's asking for Dad's rights every other weekend, and I didn't have a choice but to quit drinking. She was going to win this time, so I quit cold turkey, dumped it all down the drain, and said f, " my kids will come first. I'm not my father anymore. It, again, was thrown out of court because of her health, even though she did what she had to do to get her license and a car. All I could do was thank god for her health issues. The more nights I was sober, the more I enjoyed my time with my kids. After my husband passed away, my mother-in-law hated me. I killed her son, and that never changed. She passed away last March, and I was escorted off the premises during the wake service. She didn't want me there, not even to support my kids (who does that), so my kids left to support me.
